Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

There is a common question for Christian parents at this time of year is: Should Christians celebrate Halloween? I say they should…but not for the reasons that you might think.

I think Christians should celebrate any chance to spread the gospel and share their faith. Halloween gives us the perfect opportunity.

How do you celebrate it as a Christian?

Don’t let your little ones dress up like devils and demons, but…why not wrap them in toilet paper and say it is Lazarus who Christ raised from the dead? Maybe send them with a fishing pole and a Bible and they have become “fishers of men.” Just be creative and take the opportunity to spread God’s Word.

Do you live in a neighborhood with lots of trick-or-treaters? Great! Buy yourself some candy and some gospel tracts. No not the stuffy ones from the past…there are great new ones from a company called Memory Cross. They fold origami style and present the gospel message. They are fun, interactive and teach kids about Jesus. What could be better than that?

As a church, have a harvest party for kids in the neighborhood and send them home with good memories, invitations to church events, and the Good News of Christ.

So instead of shunning the holiday…embrace it as an evangelistic opportunity. When else could you have dozens of little kids (and the adults with them) showing up at your front door eagerly accepting gospels tracts?

Think about it.
